SOCAR will soon start chemical product transshipments through its Kulevi Oil Terminal, a SOCAR source told Trend on Wednesday.

This process will be possible thanks to a new complex for transshipment of propylene, which is located in the Kulevi Oil Terminal.

"In late this month - early next month it is expected to start transshipment of chemical products through the terminal," the source said.

The project of the new complex was prepared by the institute Neftgazelmitedgigatlayihe. The facility includes compressors, transformers, nitric station and pier to supply polypropylene.

Production at the terminal will be loaded directly from rail tank cars
to gas tankers.

Kulevi terminal was put into operation in summer 2008. Its total capacity is 10 million tons of oil per year, including 3 million tons of oil, 3 million tons of diesel fuel, and 4 million tons of fuel oil.

The terminal can accommodate up to 168 tank cars. The tank farm's total volume is 320,000 cubic meters with the possibility of increasing to 380,000 cubic meters. The port has two berths to load petroleum products in tankers of up to 100,000 tons.
