Turkmenistan plans to increase gas production in the territory of Zaunguz Karakum by up to 20 billion cubic meters in 2012, local media reported with reference to the Turkmengas State Concern.

In 2011, more than 18 billion cubic meters of gas was extracted in the territory compared to over seven billion cubic meters in 2008.

Work in the desert are is carried out as part of the dynamic development of the fuel and energy complex, including the effective use of the large gas resource potential of underground storerooms at Zaunguz Karakum.

The industrial development of the first phase of new fields was achieved by the efforts of SC 'Turkmengaz'. According to the report, gas supply for export is underway and gas processing facilities are provided by natural gas, so that the needs of the whole national economic infrastructure are met.

At present, new large scale projects are being implemented in the region and infrastructure facilities that meet international standards for its level of scientific, technical and technological equipment are being built. These projects are designed to make a significant contribution to the further increase in gas production facilities and gas processing industry of Turkmenistan.
