The total volume of production of two plants for carbamide production of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is about 1.2-1.3 million tons per year, a senior official of SOCAR told Trend on Friday.

SOCAR plans to build two plants for carbamide production. One plant will be located in the Sumgayit city in Azerbaijan, and the second - on the territory of Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) in Kulevi in Georgia.

"The plants will be similar on all parameters, particularly in terms of production volumes. Total annual capacity of the plants will be 1.2-1.3 million tons," SOCAR representative said.
All operations within construction of the carbamide plant in Georgia will be conducted in parallel with the construction work of a similar enterprise in Sumgayit.

At present, a tender procedure to select a contractor for construction of carbamide plant in Sumgayit is nearing completion. Construction work is scheduled to begin late this year.
SOCAR has been doing research in this field for three years in order to implement this project. In this regard, specialists of the State Oil Company studied the experience of other countries, in which carbamide production have been already launched. In particular, SOCAR specialists visited Egypt, Iran, and also traveled to Amman while preparing the project.
