Kazakhstan-China pipeline will be broadened to reach 20 million tons with increase of resource base, the head of KazEnergy Association Kulibayev told journalists on Thursday.
"The pipeline to China will be broadened to reach 20 million tons, but we don't have resource base for such volume yet," Kulibayev noted.
He said that Kazakhstan cannot be the general oil supplier to China.
"The general oil consumption in China is in the south of the country, which is Shanghai, but oil is supplied there from other countries. We supply oil to the north part of China, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region," he said.
'KazMunaiGas' Kazakh state oil and gas company is working together with Chinese national oil corporation on construction of the Kazakhstan-China oil pipeline, enabling connection of 2 separate Kazakhstan oil pipeline systems and supply of raw hydrocarbon material to the promising Chinese market.
