Azerbaijani transport sector increases freight traffic in Jan.-Sept.

The Azerbaijani transport sector transported 157.3 million tons of cargo in January-September, which is 3.3 percent more than the same period in 2011, the State Statistics Committee told Trend today.

Some 74.4 percent of the goods from the total volume, transported in January-September, fell to the private sector. Some 56 percent of goods were transported by vehicles, 27.5 percent - pipelines, 10.6 percent - trains and 5.9 percent - by ships.

Some 1.18 billion people were transported in January-September, which is 8.5 percent more than in January-September 2011. Most of passengers were transported by vehicles (87.7 percent) and subway (12 percent).

Some 16.7 million tons of cargo were transported by trains in January - September, which is 3.9 percent more than in January-September 2011.

Some 9.3 million tons of cargo were transported by ships in January-September, which is 0.8 percent more than in January-September 2011. The entire volume of transported cargo fell to international operations. The volume of cargo handled at Azerbaijani ports in January-September amounted to 9 million tons, which is 0.5 percent more than in January-September last year.

Some 87.9 million tons of cargo were transported by vehicles, which is 7.7 percent more than in January-September 2011. Around 1 billion people were transported (increased by 8.8 percent). Some 96.4 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 3.7 percent - by cars.

Some 141.7 million people were transported by subway, increasing by 7 percent.
Some 1.2 million passengers were transported by aircrafts in January-September, which is 14.8 percent more than in the same period of 2011. Some 1.5 percent of transportation by this kind of transport fell to private sector.

Some 37.7 million tons of cargo were transported through the Eurasian transport corridor via Azerbaijan in January-August 2012, which is 6 percent more than in January-August 2011. Some 173.1 million people were transported through the corridor in January-August, which is 8 percent more than in January-August 2011.
