The Iranian parliament (Majlis) is discussing three measures to be taken to counter fresh European Union's sanctions against the country's gas sector, the Mehr News Agency quoted vice chairman of the Majlis energy committee Naser Soudani as saying.

Ending the sales of light and heavy crude to the countries which imposed the sanctions, stopping the imports of goods from the countries and banning the travel of Iranian individuals to the aforementioned countries for tourism purposes are the three proposed measures, Soudani said.

On October 15, EU imposed fresh sanctions against Iran. It includes an embargo on Iranian natural gas and also targets Iranian banking, trade and shipping.

Soudani told the Mehr News Agency that boosting exports of petrochemical products with high added-value is one of the policies against the EU sanctions.

He referred to Asian countries, including Pakistan, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, India, as well as some central Asian as being the main buyers of Iranian natural gas.

The Iranian Oil Ministry has said the EU's recent sanction is a mere 'propaganda campaign' as Iran exports no gas to the European bloc.

"Right now Iran has no gas exports to the EU and the threat of sanctions against Iran's gas is a mere propaganda campaign," Press TV quoted Alireza Nikzad Rahbar, a spokesman for the ministry as saying.
