Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 4 / Trend, E.Ismayilov /

SOCAR is preparing a draft of the second platform at the Umid gas condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, head of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev told journalists on Monday.

He said that a draft of the new platform will be adopted by SOCAR to ensure its investments in 2013.

Abdullayev said that the process of drafting a full scale development of the Umid gas condensate field is underway. SOCAR plans to develop it independently.

"The programme and plans will be determined in 2013," he said.

He said that at present, work is underway to drill the third well in the field. Gas from one well is supplied into the general gas distribution network of the country. The daily production volume from this well is about 900,000 cubic meters per day.

According to SOCAR specialists, the reserves of the field are more than 200 billion cubic meters of gas and 40 million tons of condensate.

The Umid field is located 75 kilometres away from Baku situated 40 kilometres from the shore. Geophysical work was first conducted here in 1953 and repeatedly in 1972. Nine wells were previously drilled from 1977 to 1992 with no results.
