Iranian company produces solvent needed for motor oils

An Iranian company has managed to produce a solvent called MEK which is used in the production of motor oils as well as paints and resins, IRNA reported on Monday.

MEK had already been imported from India, Germany, China and the USA.

The company's output is up to 6000 tons which fully meet the domestic need. The output will be increased to 20,000 tons in the next phase which is projected to be launched within the next 18 months.

Some 400 billion rials plus $10 million has been invested in the project. It will save around $8 million annually.

Foreign-made products have a purity of 97 per cent on average, but the Iranian product has about 99 per cent purity.
