A new electric power station "Janub" will be put into operation in Azerbaijan in the coming months, head of "Azerenergy" company's department (production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan) Elchin Mammadov told Trend today.

"The start up work is being conducted at the main station units and the station can be put into operation soon," he said.

The station's capacity will hit 780 MW. It will work on the three types of fuel - gas, diesel fuel and fuel oil. From this point of view, "Janub" station is unique and has no analogue in Eastern Europe and the CIS countries.

Mammadov said that commissioning of the new power facility will enhance the energy security of the Absheron Peninsula and southern regions of the country and improve the efficiency of power transmission and distribution systems.

The power generation capacity of power plants owned by Azerenergy is more than 6,000 megawatts.

There are more than 200 substations with a capacity of 500, 330, 220 and 110 kV, as well as six and 13 hydroelectric power plants on the balance of JSC.
