Kazakhstan increases uranium mining in first quarter of 2013

Kazakh group of companies NAC Kazatomprom JSC increased uranium production to 4,979 tons in the first quarter of 2013, i.e. to the level of the planned target, JSC reported on Thursday.

According to the report, uranium production by Kazatomprom in the same period of 2012 amounted to 4,566 tons.

Uranium production by Kazatomprom, including shares in subsidiaries and affiliated companies in the first quarter of 2013 amounted to 2,785 tons.

According to the report, the overall production at Kazatomprom's subsidiary, Ulbinsk Metallurgical Plant, match the scheduled figures. In the first quarter of 2013, production of beryllium products amounted to 606 tons and of tantalum - 54 tons.

MAEC-Kazatomprom LLP produced 1,242 million kilowatt/hours of electricity, 983,000 Gcal of heat energy, 267 million cubic meters of water, including 2.24 million cubic meters of drinking water for consumers from Aktau and the Mangistau region in the first three months of 2013.
These figures meet the region's needs for energy and water.
