Azerbaijan, Baku, May 13 / Trend, E. Ismailov /
The target depth of the exploration well being drilled to create an underground gas storage facility in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) is 1,000 meters, a source in SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) told Trend.
Azerbaijan has two underground gas storage facilities - Kalmaz and Garadagh. In order to meet NAR's demands in gas and to improve its energy security, an underground gas storage facility is being constructed their now on the basis of a salt deposit.
According to the source, at present, the depth of the first bore is at 690 meters of the targeted 1,000 meters.
"The results of the first well will determine the drilling needs of further wells, and identifying the primary data on the size of the gas storage," the source said.
Drilling of the first exploration well on the basis of 'Nehram' salt deposit of "Nehru" is being conducted in 'Tumbul'.
As head of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev said previously, a geological survey is being conducted in the NAR by a drilling subsidiary of SOCAR. The volume of the gas storage will be from 50 to 200 million cubic meters.
