Azerbaijan plays an important role in the supply of Caspian energy resources to Europe, the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy Amos Hochstein said on Tuesday.
Touching upon the importance of the TAP or Nabucco projects for the U.S., Hochstein said the U.S. is neutral in this matter.
According to him, the main issue of interest for the U.S. is the supply of Azerbaijani gas to European markets.
"The decision on selection of TAP or Nabucco depends on the companies involved in the consortium," Deputy Assistant Secretary said.
Recall that the consortium to develop Shah Deniz is currently considering two options of gas transportation to Europe - Nabucco West and TAP (Trans Adriatic Pipeline). The final decision on the choice of the pipeline route will be made in June 2013.
