Indicator of gas utilization in Karachaganak field in Kazakhstan reached world level

Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. company, the operator of the project on developing oil and gas field "Karachaganak" in Kazakhstan, extracted 66.934 million oil-equivalent barrels of stabilized and non-stabilized liquid hydrocarbons, gas and fuel gas in the first half of the year, the company said on Wednesday.

At the same time the amount of gas reinjection to maintain reservoir pressure constituted 3.948 billlion cubic meters, which corresponds to 47 per cent of total amount of extracted gas.

The indicator of gas utilization in Karachaganak constituted 99.86 per cent according to the results for the first half year, which is the achievement on the world level.

Today the partners on Karachaganak project have invested about $17 billion in the project development, at the same time the amount of direct payments to the budget of Kazakhstan constituted about $9.4 billion. In addition, the total amount of wage, paid to Kazakh employees of KPO, constituted approximately $0.81 billion.

The program of development of domestic suppliers will allow involving to the development of "Karachaganak" over 3,000 Kazakh enterprises, which are generally received from KPO order in the amount exceeding $4 billion.

According to the first half year, the share of Kazakhstan content in the KPO contracts in the supply of goods, works and services constituted 49.9 per cent or $ 111.7 million.

While carrying out its production activities KPO relies on the principles of sustainable development. The company fully supports the initiatives of the Republic's government in the issues of transition to a "green economy."

During the previous period the amount of gas flaring constituted 0.14 per cent from the total amount of extracted gas, or 0.82 tons per 1,000 tons of extracted gas. It is an indicator of world-class, considering that the similar global average exceeds 15 tons per 1,000 tons of extracted gas. Totally the amount of KPO investments in environmental activities since 1988 have constituted about $250 million.

KPO investments has a positive impact on the social reconstruction of western Kazakhstan. Annually KPO allocates $20 million in the implementation of social infrastructure projects in the West Kazakhstan region. And the construction involve only Kazakh contractors. Today total amount of investments of KPO in the social sphere has exceeded $565 million, including the construction of Karachaganak-Uralsk gas pipeline, which was commissioned in late 2011.
