Kazakh Majilis (Parliament's lower chamber) ratified of the Protocol amending the intergovernmental agreement between Kazakhstan and the Republic of Korea on the development, financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Balkhash thermal power plant, Majilis press-service reported.
The amendments will ensure the start of construction of Balkhash TPP first module.
Moreover, they will bring the document to the terms envisaged by the law in the electricity, investment activities of natural monopolies and regulated markets.
The shareholders of Balkhash TPP are Kazakh Samruk-Energy company and South Korean Korea Electric Power Corporation and Samsung C&T Corporation.
The financing structure of the project involves borrowings (70 percent) and the shareholders' contributions (30 percent) in the amount equal to their shares in Balkhash TPP project: Samruk-Energy (25 percent plus one share) and Samsung C&T Corporation (75 percent minus one share).
