A memorandum on construction of two hydro power plants in the country's west was executed between the Georgian government and the "Georgian Hydro Power" company on Tuesday. The agreement was signed by Georgia's Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze and the company's Director General Shamil Birkadze.

In accordance to the agreement, "Ubisi hydro power plant" with capacity of 4 megawatt will be constructed in Imereti, on the Dzirula river, as well as "Akavret hydro power plant" with capacity of 18 megawatt will be constructed in Adjara, at the confluence of Akavret and Londari rivers.

"Today, we executed an agreement according to which the company takes obligation to present the project's feasibility study within 15 months. One hydro power plant will be constructed in Imereti, the second in Adjara, and their total capacity will be 22 megawatt," Kaladze said.

According to him, after the Energy Ministry adopted new regulations, investors' interest in this field increased.

"The government and the state are the guarantors that nobody will touch the private business and nobody can create artificial barriers. Our authority will make every effort in order to provide the development of this sector," the minister said.
