Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 1 /Trend, E. Ismailov/

The deployment of appropriate infrastructure as part of the development of alternative and renewable energy in Azerbaijan will be carried out in areas with the highest possible performance, which will increase the effectiveness of green energy technology, Director of the Azerbaijani State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources, Akim Badalov told journalists on Friday.

According to him, three years ago, the creation of 2-2.5 MW capacities for the generation of alternative and renewable energy sources was thought to cost several billion manats, whereas in the present, it is possible to speak about smaller figures.

This is not only because technology decreases in cost overtime, but also because Azerbaijan is developing its own production capabilities.

"In particular, it will be possible to save on the equipment itself, because Azerbaijan is already producing solar panels. It is also planned to produce heat pumps and equipment for the regeneration of wind energy, as well as systems for the construction of power plants on small rivers. Aside from that, more effective results will mandate infrastructure placement in areas with the highest production capacity," the head of the State Agency said.

According Badalov, the main purpose of the development of alternative energy in Azerbaijan is to provide the population with quality, trouble-free and cheap electricity.

Some 300 million manat have been invested so far in the development of alternative and renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan. Some 70 million manats out of the total investments account for state investment and the rest for private investment.

The official exchange rate for Nov. 1 is 0.7844 AZN/USD.
