As a result of work carried out, emission of associated gas to the atmosphere decreased by 560 million cubic meters at the Guneshli and Oil Rocks oil and gas fields, head of the Azerbaijani State Oil Company (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev said on Monday during the International Environmental Conference being held in Baku.

Talking about cooperation between the State Oil Company and BP, Abdullayev stressed that as a result of the work carried out, it was possible to reduce the volume of gas burned in flares in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oil and gas field block and at the Sangachal oil terminal.

"This in turn led to the growth of associated gas volumes transmitted by the BP Company," he said.

In addition in his speech, the SOCAR head emphasised the positive environmental impact of the construction of the new oil and gas processing and petrochemical complex.

According to him, as a result, it is planned to demolish old refineries. Meanwhile, the construction of the complex will have a positive impact on the environmental situation in Sumgait where chemical production is situated.
