By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:
"Geological exploration work in Turkmenistan has proved there are proven inexhaustible reserves in Turkmenistan's sub soils," Chairman of the Turkmengeologiya State Corporation, Atadurdy Berdyniyazov said at the international conference entitled Turkmenistan's Oil and Gas in Ashgabat (Nov. 19-21).

"At the moment, more than 162 oil and gas fields are open in the country. More than 1000 promising oil and natural gas deposits have been discovered. This makes Turkmenistan one of the world's leading oil and gas powers," he said.

According to him, the launch of the large Galkynysh field is an example. Complex work carried out by geologists gives the opportunity to specifically identify minerals.

Head of the State Corporation said that besides the land, the Turkmen part of the Caspian Sea is also considered as promising for oil and natural gas. In addition, currently 3D seismic research is being conducted in western Turkmenistan (Akpatlavuk, Korpeje and other areas) and in eastern Turkmenistan (Galkynysh, Yashlar and more sites).

The largest fields in Turkmenistan are concentrated in Mary province in the country's Eastern sector. Total resources of Galkynysh and nearby fields are estimated by local geologists and the GCA British Company to be within 26.2 trillion cubic meters.
