Minister: Turkey, Qatar sign treaty on liquefied natural gas purchase

Turkey and Qatar have signed a treaty on a liquefied natural gas purchase to the amount of $350 million, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz was quoted today by the Anadolu agency as saying.

"Qatar is one of the most important suppliers of liquefied natural gas to the world markets," he said.

"The signed agreement is temporary," he added. "It envisages providing Turkey with gas in the winter months, namely December, January and February."

Around 30 billion cubic meters of gas were sold on Turkey's domestic market in January - October 2013 compared to 33.09 billion cubic meters in the same period of 2012.

Around 41.44 billion cubic meters of gas were sold on Turkey's domestic market in 2012 compared to 39.4 billion cubic meters of gas in 2011.
