By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:

The infrastructure must be developed and associated petroleum gas from the largest fields, first of all, Kashagan, must be processed to develop the gas industry in Kazakhstan, director of the Oil, Gas & Chemicals department at Strategy partners group Andrey Zauter said today.

"Associated petroleum gas in Kazakhstan's key fields is differentiated by an extremely high content of non-hydrocarbon components such as hydrogen sulphide, which imposes obligations on its refinement," Zauter said at a KazEnergy meeting in Astana today. "Moreover, the existing gas transportation infrastructure is designed for transit of gas from Central Asia to Russia. It is unable to provide supplies in northern and southern Kazakhstan."

"Currently, the development of exports has no prospects. The deficit of marketable gas is forecasted in Kazakhstan. Significant investments in gas transportation and gas processing infrastructure will be required to join the export markets.

"Incentives must be created to support the regional gasification plans for gas production development," he said. "Measures must be taken to prevent price hikes in 2015 in connection with the common economic space agreements. The production and processing of associated petroleum gas must be actively stimulated for further development of the gas industry."
