By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:

Ashgabat and Tehran discussed cooperation in the oil and gas sphere during the meeting of a delegation headed by Deputy Oil Minister of Iran for International Affairs Ali Majedi at Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry, a message from Turkmen government said on Jan.10.

"The parties exchanged views on the future development of Turkmen-Iranian relations, including cooperation in the oil and gas sphere," a message from Turkmen government said.

Turkmenistan and Iran border the Caspian Sea and have a long land border. During the years of long-term cooperation between the two countries a number of large-scale joint projects were implemented.

With this regard, the strategic project for commissioning Korpeje-Kurt-Kui gas pipeline in 1996, as well as commissioning of Dovletabat-Sarahs-Hangeran pipeline in recent years can be mentioned.

Tehran and Ashgabat earlier said that they are holding negotiations on increasing the supply of Turkmen gas to Iran.
