By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:

The second platform at Umid gas condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea could be commissioned in early 2015, a source at the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) told Trend on Jan.22.

The work on construction of a new platform within the project of large-scale development of Umid field actively continues, according to the source.

"The jackets of the platform have already been sailed away for installation and the work on construction of the topsides continues. I do not think that the platform will be operational in 2014, most likely it will be commissioned in early 2015," the source said.

Currently, one platform designed for drilling five wells is under operation at the field.

SOCAR declared the opening of Umid field in 2010. According to the results of drilling of the first exploration well, the amount of the field's reserves amounted to over 200 billion cubic meters of gas and 40 million tons of condensate, SOCAR specialists said.

The Umid field is located in 75 kilometers from Baku, 40 kilometers away from the coast. In 1953, the first geophysical works were carried out here, which were repeated in 1972 using improved methods. Nine wells have been drilled from 1977 to 1992 there, none of which produced results.
