India can undertake the development of Kazakhstan's Abay oil block, Indian First Deputy Oil and Gas Minister, Saurabh Chandra said on April 25.

"Kazakh government offered us the Abay block, our company will study all the information on this block and notify the Kazakh side," Saurabh Chandra said following the 11th meeting of the Kazakh-Indian Intergovernmental Commission.

A protocol was signed following the meeting held at Kazakh Oil and Gas Ministry. The parties also agreed to review the possibility of expanding cooperation in exploration and production of hydrocarbons in Kazakhstan as well as increasing the volume of bilateral trade.

The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and India today stands at $670 million, according to Kazakh Oil and Gas Vice Minister, Magzum Mirzagaliyev.

"Today the ONGC Videsh and KazMunaiGas companies are jointly working within the Satpayev project. We expect that a well will be drilled at this block in 2015," Mirzagaliyev said.
