The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) started drilling a new well in the shallow part of the Guneshli field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, a message from the oil company said on April 30.

The deepwater part of the Guneshli field is developed by SOCAR jointly with foreign companies operating at the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block of oil and gas fields.

The new well, with the projected depth of 3,650 meters, is being drilled from the Guneshli-19 platform, according to SOCAR.

The daily flow rate of the well will consist of around 150,000 cubic meters of gas and 15 tonnes of condensates.

SOCAR planned to drill 20 new wells for increasing oil and gas production in Guneshli field's shallow part.

SOCAR produced over 8.31 million tonnes of oil from Azerbaijan's onshore and offshore fields in 2013, versus 8.24 million tonnes in 2012.

In total, some 43.48 million tonnes of oil was produced in Azerbaijan in 2013, versus 43 million tonnes in 2012, according to the company.
