Central Asian countries significantly increase oil transit through Azerbaijan

Most of oil extracted in Azerbaijan is exported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC). Around 5.6 million metric tons of transit oil (from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan) were transported in 2014 compared to 3.3 million metric tons in 2013, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report as of 2014 says.

"During this period, around 5.6 million metric tons of transit oil were transported from the Sangachal terminal via BTC," the report says.

The pumping capacity of the pipeline is 1.2 million barrels of oil per day.

The total length of the BTC is 1,768 kilometers, of which 443 kilometers goes through Azerbaijan, 249 kilometers through Georgia and 1,076 through Turkey.

The pipeline capacity is 1.2 million barrels of oil per day. BTC construction cost $4 billion.
Stockholders of the BTC Co. are BP (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), Chevron (8.9 percent), Statoil (8.71 percent), ТРАО (6.53 percent), Eni (5 percent), Total (5 percent), Itochu (3.40 percent), Inpex (2.5 percent), ConocoPhillips (2.5 percent) and ONGC (2.36 percent).
