Turkmenistan increases electricity production

Turkmenistan’s electricity production rose by 3.7 percent in Jan.-Feb. 2015 as compared to the same period of the last year.

Turkmenistan's electricity production rose by 3.7 percent in Jan.-Feb. 2015 as compared to the same period of the last year, according to a message from the Turkmen Ministry of Economy and Development.

Earlier it was reported that Turkmenistan annually exports over 2.8 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, or 15 percent of total production, to neighboring countries.

Currently, work is underway in Turkmenistan to expand electricity export to Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey.

Turkmenistan is examining the possibility of electricity delivery to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and countries in the Caucasus.

There are plans to build 14 gas turbine power plants in various regions of Turkmenistan under the concept of development of the country's electric power industry for 2013-2020.

Turkmenistan plans to increase the electricity production to 27.4 billion kilowatt hours by 2020, and to 35.5 billion kilowatt hours by 2030.
