Baku, Azerbaijan, May 24

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran has increased oil production at the Salman oilfield, which is shared with the United Arab Emirates, said Ebrahim Paksima, the deputy director of the Salman oil platform.

In line with the policy to boost production at the joint oilfields, the Salman field's output was increased by 3,000 barrels per day, Paksima said, Iran's Shana news agency reported on May 24.

Currently, three platforms are operating in the oilfield, and new wells are being drilled, he noted.

The Salman field, located in the Gulf, has 44 oil wells, 10 water injection wells and facilities which can produce 220,000 barrels of oil and other substances a day.

The oil produced in this field is delivered to onshore facilities in Lavan Island for processing and storage through a subsea pipeline.

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh has issued a directive to contractors to speed up the development of joint oil and gas fields.

According to the directive, drilling rigs should be relocated from non-associated fields to associated fields.

Zanganeh has said that the development of joint oil and gas fields is a national task.

Iran has a number of joint fields with Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.
