A container ship belonging to the Taiwanese Evergreen Marine Corporation is going to dock at Iran's Rajaei Port August 5.

Ever Legion with a capacity of 8,500 TEU containers started from Shanghai and after passing Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Jebel Ali will dock at Iran's biggest container port, Iranian Hormozgan Province's director of Ports and Navigation Ebrahim Idani said, Fars news agency reported August 4.

The official further said seven Evergreen container ships are planned to return to the Iranian port to unload and load between five to six thousand TEU containers a week.

He said after the removal of economic sanctions on Iran, the opening of the marine routs to Rajaei port will reduce the time of Iran's access to goods as much as one week, saving 40 to 100 dollars per metric ton of goods.

Under sanctions, Evergreen ships could travel only as far as the southern parts of the Persian Gulf, and from there, send the containers by smaller ships to Iranian ports.

Evergreen is the fifth biggest container company in the world, which had stopped docking at Rajaei port after sanctions were imposed on Iran.

Through a nuclear deal reached on July 14, which is expected to remove the economic sanctions, Iran is hoping to open up to the world market.

Shahid Rajaei port is located 23 kilometers west of Bandar Abbas, the capital city of southern Iranian province of Hormozgan. The port is equipped with 18 gantry cranes and 41 docks, which make it the biggest and most modern container port in Iran.
