Iran added 23 billion cubic meters (bcm) to sweet gas production in the last fiscal year that ended March 20, said Hamidreza Araqi, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company.

He said the sweet gas production growth occurred thanks to launching three gas refineries at the giant South Pars field's phases 15, 16 and 12.

Iran is also going to launch a refinery at the South Pars Phase 19, worth $4.8 billion, in the second half of the current fiscal year.

The refinery is complete by 93.3 percent, said Araqi.

According to Iran's Oil Ministry, the country produced 214 bcm of commercial gas, of which 178 bcm was sweetened during the last fiscal year.

Iran plans to produce 240 bcm of commercial gas in the current fiscal year.
