There is a plan to build a new tank farm at the Black Sea oil terminal of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Kulevi, Georgia, said the terminal’s message Aug. 11.

The management is constantly studying the terminal’s potential to increase the transshipment of oil and oil products, according to the message.

“It is planned to build five tanks, including three with capacity of 3,000 cubic meters for the pyrolysis products, a tank with capacity of 2,000 cubic meters for isopropyl alcohol, another one with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters for industrial oils,” said the message.

Currently, the terminal is preparing an environmental impact assessment (EIA) on the new project. A public debate on the document will be held on Sept. 8. Afterwards, a final version of the EIA will be sent to relevant authorities for consideration.

The terminal in Georgia’s Kulevi was commissioned in May 2008 and the oil transshipment started in June of the same year.

Total capacity of the terminal is 10 million tons of bulk oil cargo per year, 3 million tons of oil, 3 million tons of diesel fuel and 4 million tons of fuel oil.
