Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR is processing and interpreting the data obtained during a seismic survey on the Goshadash prospective structure, First Vice-President of SOCAR Khoshbakht Yusifzade said in an article published in Azerbaijan’s Respublika newspaper.
Based on the obtained and processed results of seismic surveys on the Babek structure, a place was selected for drilling the first exploration well, according to him.
"However, due to the absence of available drilling rig, capable of working under high pressure, the drilling of an exploration well on the Babek structure was deferred to subsequent years," Yusifzade said.
He also noted that SOCAR's Department of Geophysics and Geology carried out 3D seismic surveys to identify the prospects of Mesozoic deposits on the Goshadash structure.
"Currently, the materials are being processed and interpreted," he said.
Yusifzade added that SOCAR received requests from companies like Statoil, Total and ConocoPhillips for prospecting for Mesozoic oil in onshore areas of Azerbaijan.
