SOCAR Turkey Enerji, subsidiary of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, postponed the purchase of a network of filling stations in Turkey until 2020, head of SOCAR Turkey Enerji Zaur Gahramanov told reporters in Baku.

“We don't want to buy small networks, as they do not correspond to the task set by SOCAR in Turkey, which is related to the sale of Star oil refinery’s products. Building our own network there is also pointless now, as it is a dealer market,” he said.

“In 2019-2020, when the plant starts production at full capacity, a round of negotiations on new dealer contracts will begin, as the existing contracts will expire. We will become more active in the market during this period. But until that time we will strengthen distribution centers, and won’t buy filling stations,” Gahramanov added.

He noted that SOCAR Turkey Enerji needs such a network that would sell about 1.5 million tons of fuel per year.

“The number of filling stations doesn't matter. It can be one filling station in the city center, which fills the same amount of fuel as filling stations in regions.”
