By Ali Mustafayev - Trend:

Cooperation in energy sphere with Azerbaijan would be beneficial for Pakistan, taking into account the fact that Pakistan’s population has grown from 142 million to 194 million in the last 15 years, and the demand for energy grows correspondingly, Ambassador of Pakistan to Azerbaijan Saeed Khan Mohmand told Trend.

Pakistan State Oil (state-owned multinational petroleum corporation) and SOCAR signed an energy agreement, during President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Islamabad amid the 13th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization in February 2017.

“I’m not really aware of the current details regarding the work on energy projects, but Azerbaijan has a lot of experience in gas and oil exploration and the cooperation for this purpose would also be useful for us,” said the ambassador.

He added that previously, Pakistan had also signed energy agreements with Qatar for different purposes, including oil research in Pakistan for a period of 15 years.

Azerbaijan and Pakistan signed an intergovernmental agreement on energy cooperation on February 28, 2017, which directly involves LNG (liquefied natural gas) supplies. The both sides held talks since that time, and the realization of the project is expected in near future.
