Many companies ready to invest in TAPI gas pipeline project

Many companies have expressed desire to participate in the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

Berdimuhamedov made the remarks at the government meeting, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news agency reported Dec. 30.

"I think that ensuring the high quality of the planned work in accordance with the schedule will increase the number of potential investors," the president said.

Turkmenistan started to construct its TAPI section in December 2015. Annual capacity of the gas pipeline will be up to 33 billion cubic meters.

Earlier, representatives of the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Japanese government expressed their interest in TAPI financing. The Islamic Development Bank has already allocated a loan worth $700 million for Turkmenistan to construct its TAPI section.
