Japan Bank for International Cooperation is working with the government of Turkmenistan on a project in the electric power industry, the Watan newspaper reported.

The two sides are in talks over Japan’s financial support to a project on gas turbine power plant construction in the Chardjev District of Turkmenistan’s Lebap Region.

Construction of a urea plant and a sulfuric acid workshop in Turkmenistan are among the projects previously implemented with participation of the Japanese bank.

Turkmenistan exports electricity to Iran, Afghanistan and Turkey.

Turkmenistan plans to bring the total electricity production to 33 billion kilowatt hours by 2024, which is 27.2 percent more compared to the plans for 2018, said the Turkmen Energy Ministry.
