Uzbek bank to finance construction of two HPPs

JSC "Uzbekhydroenergo" to build two hydroelectric stations at the expense of a local bank loan, Uzbek media reported referring to JSC "Uzbekhydroenergo".

Turonbank will approve loans in the amount of $22.88 million and $62.96 million respectively, provided for a period of 20 years, including a grace period of five years, with an interest rate of 2 percent per annum, including the margin of the refinancing bank of 0. 2 percent.

The funds will be spent on the construction of the Kamolot HPP and the modernization of four small hydropower plants (Kadyrinskaya, Nizhne-Bozsu, Tashkent and Shahrikhan HPPs), using Chinese technologies and equipment.

The program of measures on the development of hydropower for 2017-2021, approved by the president in May 2017, envisages construction of 42 new and modernization of 32 operating hydroelectric power stations on natural waterways and water management facilities in the country.

Presently, 45 power stations with a total capacity of more than 12,400 MW function in Uzbekistan. The total capacity of 16 power stations of SJSC "Uzbekenergo" is 12,040 MW, including the capacity of hydroelectric power stations - more than 1,900 MW.

The rest of the electricity is generated by autonomous thermal power plants of industrial enterprises and small HPPs that are part of the Agriculture and Water Resources Ministry . Potential power generation is estimated at 56-57 billion kW.
