A practical stage of Turkmenistan—China gas pipeline project started on the territory of Tajikistan, deputy minister of energy and water resources of the country Jamshed Shoimzoda told local media outlets on Thursday.

Preparation work has started in the Rudaki District.

“There are no problems regarding the project as of yet, and the construction work on the Tajik section are to be held based on the real financing,” Avesta news agency quoted the official as saying.

The construction work is supervised by the subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).

The cost of the Tajik section of the project is $3.2 billion.

A route is to be laid from the Tursunzoda District to the Kyrgyzstan border through Hisor, Shahrinaw, Rudaki, Vahdat, Faizobod, Nurobod, Rasht District, Tojikobod and Jirgatol. The length of the line is 400 km.

The work is planned to be finished by the end of 2019.

It should be noted that currently three streams (A, B and C) of the pipeline on the Turkmenistan—Uzbekistan—Kazakhstan—China route totally supply 40 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.

The agreement on the construction of the fourth stream of the Turkmenistan—China pipeline was signed as a result of the negotiations between the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and the President of People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping in September, 2013.
