Deputy minister: SOCAR helps develop Romania's competitive energy market (Exclusive)

The presence of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Romania distribution stations contributes to the development of a modern and competitive energy market in Romania, Deputy Minister of Energy of Romania Iulian Tudorache told Trend.

“The Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Azerbaijan in the field of energy is enriched by the existing cooperation between the relevant energy companies of the two countries. SOCAR opened its Romanian branch in 2007, which is headed by Hamza Karimov, a brilliant graduate of a leading Romanian university," said Tudorache.

He also said that since then, SOCAR Romania has opened 39 filling stations in the country, as part of a wider and ambitious plan to open 100 petrol stations.

The deputy minister also mentioned the Memorandum of Understanding concluded in 2016 between SOCAR and TRANSGAZ (namely the TSO – Transport System Operators – from Azerbaijan and from Romania) to transport natural gas, and its positive influence on energy cooperation between the countries.

SOCAR Romania is the representative of the oil and natural gas company owned by the State of Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani state owned company, also represented in Romania, is together with the EU through their participation in key projects mean to increase Europe’s energetic security, through the diversification of natural gas resources.

State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic invests billions of dollars annually in transportation’s infrastructure and is involved in European level in projects designed to increase Europe’s energy security through diversification of natural gas.
