Tests of new installations built at the Sangachal terminal within the project of the second stage of the development of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz biggest gas field have been completed by 95 percent, Rahman Rahmanov, general manager of the Sangachal terminal expansion project within the Shah Deniz Stage 2 project told reporters in Baku Feb. 21.

He added that the construction of all installations completed by 100 percent in 2017.

"Presently, tests are conducted to reveal the leaks,” he said. “Electrical and other tests of new installations are also carried out. These tests have been completed by 95 percent."

“According to the plans, the tests will last in the first quarter of the year,” he said. “Moreover, 86 hermetic tests have been carried out. The demolition of temporary installations has been completed by 81 percent. The commissioning of facilities has been completed by 26 percent."

“The operations are also planned to be held to prepare new infrastructure for integration into the general terminal system, as well as to commission gas systems in the first quarter of this year,” Rahmanov said.

"The first volumes of gas are planned to be pumped through the new installations of the Sangachal terminal in the second quarter of the year,” he said. “In 2018 two billion cubic meters of gas are planned to be processed within the Shah Deniz Stage 2 project."

The general manager said that as a result of the construction of new installations, the gas processing capacity of the Sangachal terminal will grow to about 100 million cubic meters per day.

Presently, the terminal's capacity is about 50 million cubic meters of gas per day (around 30 million cubic meters from Shah Deniz field and 20 million cubic meters of associated gas from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli block of oil and gas fields).

He added that the area of the Sangachal terminal increased by 70 hectares due to the construction of new installations.

"Presently, the area of the terminal is 540 hectares, so it will exceed 600 hectares, which makes the Sangachal terminal one of the biggest ones in the world," Rahmanov said.
