Kazakhstan seeks to attract EBRD funds for gas pipeline project

Kazakhstan seeks to attract funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the construction of the gas pipeline in Astana, said the country's energy minister Kanat Bozumbayev.

Speaking at the government meeting on Feb. 27, the minister said the issue of raising funds from EBRD for construction of the Saryarka main gas pipeline of KazTransGas JSC is currently being discussed.

He said that the cost of all four stages of the project is 370 billion tenge including VAT.

Supplying gas to Astana, northern and central Kazakhstan will provide consumers with economical and convenient heating system, and increase power generation. In addition, the use of natural gas will positively affect the ecological situation in the region.

Consumer will get domestic natural gas via the new gas pipeline "Saryarka", which will be supplied from the "Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent" main gas pipeline.
