One of SOCAR Polymer plants almost completed

The construction of a polypropylene plant within the SOCAR Polymer project in Sumgayit has been completed by 99.5 percent, a source close to the project told Trend May 15.

The source noted that engineering work, purchase of equipment and supply of materials and equipment have been completed by 100 percent, and construction work - by 98.7 percent.

"In general, the readiness of the plant is 99.5 percent. Start-up and adjustment work is already in progress, the test production of polypropylene has been successfully started. The plant will be ready for commissioning in June this year," the source said.

The source noted that the construction of a polyethylene plant under the same project was completed by 93.9 percent.

"Engineering work and purchase of equipment have been completed by 99.9 percent, and supplies of materials and equipment – by 99.5 percent. The extent of completion of construction is currently 87.2 percent," the source said.

The SOCAR Polymer project implemented at the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park. At the first stage, the production capacity of SOCAR Polymer will be 120,000 tons of polyethylene and 180,000 tons of polypropylene. By 2021, the total capacity can reach 570,000 tons of products.
