By Maksim Tsurkov – Trend:

Azerikimya Production Union of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR slightly reduced manufacture of the main types of petrochemical products in 2017, a source in SOCAR told Trend June 14.

The small reduction was related to the temporary suspension of production at the Ethylene-Polyethylene plant in Sumgait city as part of modernization of the production union’s facilities.

“Thus, 96,060 tons of ethylene were produced in 2017 (103,410 tons in 2016), 93,200 tons of polyethylene (100,260 tons in 2016), 48,550 tons of propylene (52,190 tons in 2016), as well as 31,570 tons of butane-butylene fraction (22,170 tons in 2016),” the source said.

The source added that this year the production union plans to keep production volumes at a stable level.

The upgraded plant will be commissioned after reconstruction in the first quarter of 2020.

As a result of the project’s implementation, ethylene production will grow from the current 100,000-105,000 tons to 192,000 tons per year, and the propylene production will increase from 50,000-55,000 tons to 187,000 tons per year. The plant’s service life will also be extended by 20 years.
