The license for oil and gas exploration of the Dutch company N.V. Turkse Perenco and the Turkish State Oil and Gas Corporation (TPAO) has been extended for 10 years, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey told Trend on Sept. 28.

According to the ministry, N.V. Turkse Perenco and TPAO will be engaged in oil and gas exploration in the Silvan District of Turkey's Diyarbakir Province in a total area of 5,700 hectares.

The law permitting oil exploration in forests and national parks came into force in Turkey in April 2014.

According to the ministry, a total of 56 wells have been drilled as part of exploration of new oil and gas fields in Turkey since 2014, of which 54 are onshore, and two are offshore.

In 2017, 1,863 exploration projects were carried out in Turkey to search for new oil and gas fields.

Turkey is also planning to create a new company for oil and gas exploration abroad. The new company is expected to be engaged in oil and gas exploration in Central Asian and African countries.
