Some 3.45 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity have been produced at Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) within first half of the current year (starting from March 21, 2018) and 3.14 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity have been transferred to the country’s electricity grid, the news portal of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) quoted the AEOI as saying.

The production of electricity has been implemented continuously at this plant since the beginning of the current year, the AEOI stated.

After commissioning of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in 2011 and its connection to the commercial grid in 2013, the plant has produced 31.65 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity by the end of the first six months of the current year, and 28.72 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity out of the total production volume have been transferred to the country’s electricity grid.

During the 7 years’ period of operation of the plant, it has allowed for saving the residual energies in the total amount of several billions US dollars, including 50.5 million barrels of oil or 7.676 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

Besides, since the time of commissioning of the Bushehr NPP, it has contributed to reduction of volume of emission into the atmosphere of various pollutant gases approximately by 29 million tons.

The reduction of pollutants to such an extent exerts positive influence on the country’s weather conditions and climate. Taking into consideration the problems arising from influence of the greenhouse gases and warming of the Earth's climate, the operation of NPP contributes to reduction of greenhouse gases.

The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant has been designed for construction and commissioning of three nuclear power units (reactors). Currently, the first nuclear power unit of this plant operates by producing 1,000 megawatts of electricity. The 2nd and 3rd units with capacity of production of 1057 megawatts of electricity each, are under construction.
