Since late 2009, China has acquired 220 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas and became its biggest importer, Wang Zhongcai, vice president of Petrochina, chairman of the board of directors of CNPC International, said at the Turkmenistan International Oil & Gas Conference & Exhibition (OGT Expo 2018), according to a source close to the event’s organization.
The Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline, which is 1,800 kilometers long, is the largest transboundary gas pipeline in the world.
Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world in terms of gas reserves, and China is the largest consumer of energy resources.
“High-quality Turkmen gas is transported along the new Great Silk Road to millions of Chinese families,” he said.
The gas pipeline route passes through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. It is planned to build a fourth line of the gas pipeline through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, with the commissioning of which the volumes of export gas will increase. In the end, it is planned to bring them to 65 billion per year, which is over one and a half times more than the current figures.
