There is still not enough information about possible existence of oil and gas in East Azerbaijan province, Mohammad Vahdati Helan, MP in Iran's parliament, told Trend.

Director of Exploration at National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Saleh Hendi has recently announced there is a possibility of hydrocarbon reservoirs existence in Bostanabad and Mianeh regions in East Azerbaijan Province and that Iran is to start further operational research in these regions.

"The news of possible oil and gas existence in the province has been published recently, but so far nothing sufficient is available," he said.

Iran recently announced the primary researches and studies indicated a possible existence of hydrocarbon reservoirs in East Azerbaijan Province.

"East Azerbijan MPs intend to discuss the case with the relevant ministries and experts to be completely sure about this. If there is a possibility of oil and gas existence in the province, necessary steps will be taken to start exploration there," Helan said.

"If the news is true and expert speculations are correct, it would undoubtedly have positive effects on economic development of the province and instead of paying heavy costs to transfer raw material to the province, now it can use the potential without any costs," he noted.
