The Azerbaijan-made solar panels may be supplied to Germany in the near future, Nizami Asgarov, chief technologist of the Azerbaijani company Azguntex, told Trend Jan. 7.

He noted that the solar panels produced by the company are of high quality and have a TUV international certificate.

He added that negotiations are underway to supply Azguntex products to Turkey, Iran, the UAE and Georgia as well.

Earlier, the company’s plant produced panels with a capacity of 250 watts. After modernization, their power will grow to 300-330 watts.

The Azguntex plant opened in April 2012. The lifetime of the produced solar panels is 30-40 years.

Azerbaijan is taking serious steps to develop alternative energy. To this end, negotiations are underway with foreign companies and investors, including companies from China, the UAE, the US and the EU.

Most of Azerbaijan's potential in this sector comes from the solar energy and this potential is estimated at 5,000 megawatts.

Wind power accounts for 4,500 megawatts, biomass for 1,500 megawatts, geothermal energy for 800 megawatts, and small hydropower plants for 350 megawatts.

The potential of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan exceeds 25,300 megawatts, which will allow generating 62.8 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
