The EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor for the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) project is planned to be selected in April, Teodora Georgieva, Executive Officer of ICGB AD (project company), told Trend.

“We are targeting to finalize the pre-qualification phase in January, that includes a Board of Directors decision (BoD) and the Preselection Decision which shall be issued by the executive officers,” she said.

Georgieva pointed out that following the preselection phase, five candidates will be invited to submit an offer for the next phase.

“As you are aware the EPC is the key tender and have a direct impact on the construction schedule and the advancement of the project. If there are appeals on the pre-qualification phase results, the process will be delayed, otherwise we deem that by April we may finalize the EPC tender,” she said.

IGB is a gas pipeline, which will allow Bulgaria to receive Azerbaijani gas, in particular, the gas produced from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz 2 gas and condensate field. IGB is expected to be connected to TAP via which gas from the Shah Deniz field will be delivered to the European markets.

The initial capacity of IGB will be 3 billion cubic meters of gas.
