Uzbekistan launches new hydropower plant

A new hydropower plant (HPP) has been commissioned at the Tuyabuguz reservoir in the Urtachirchik district of the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to Narodnoe Slovo.

The construction work of the hydropower plant began in July 2017. The project was developed by the company Hydroproject.

The station's capacity is 12 MW, the height of the reservoir is 30 meters and the volume is 250 million cubic meters. The total cost of the project is $15.8 million, of which $8 million is foreign investment and $7.7 million is Uzbekhydroenergo funds.

The experts state that the station will pay off within four years, since the units will produce electricity 11 months a year in an uninterrupted mode.

On average, hydropower plants will produce 41.2 million kWh of electricity per year, which will meet the demand of 1,600 households.

The program of measures for the development of hydropower industry in Uzbekistan for 2017–2021 provides for the construction of 42 new and modernization of 32 existing hydroelectric power plants. Currently, construction of a small hydropower station on the Tuyabuguz reservoir, a cascade of small hydropower stations on the Great Fergana Canal and on the Tupolang River, and a small station Kamchik on the Akhangaran River are underway.
