By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Azerbaijan’s SOCAR AQS has conducted unique drilling and geophysical research at Umid gas field, Trend reports citing the company.

The company said it has successfully and qualitatively completed the drilling work at the exploration well #16 with an actual depth of 6,810 meters from offshore stationary platform #1 at Umid field.

SOCAR AQS has completed the well construction securely, without any environmental impact, said the company.

Taking into account the well integrity, the well #16 is one of the most qualitative wells drilled in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, according to SOCAR AQS.

The well #16 opened a new page in the history of Umid field, said the company.

For the first time in SOCAR’s history, there were made certain changes in the drilling technologies in the process of well construction, new methods were applied in assembly of wellhead equipment, according to the company.

SOCAR AQS said one of its achievements was the the measurement of layer pressure in the productive horizons and taking the samples of rocks.

“For the first time in the history of Umid field, SOCAR AQS took 100 percent of rock samples from the fifth horizon in 6046.5-6063.5m and 6037-6046m interval by using the equipment meeting the international standards and handed over to the customer in hermetical packaging,” said the company.

Head of SOCAR AQS Geology Department Sevinj Gasimova noted that the exploration well #16 played a significant role in revealing the full potential of Umid field.

SOCAR-AQS was established in 2007 by Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Absheron Drilling Company as a joint venture rendering integrated services for drilling and well servicing.
